Diagnosis of female's pregnancy and its length
Diagnosis of pregnancy:
The possible period of pregnancy assessment is approximately 18-30 days from the day of mating, however, the best interval is 25-30 days. At that time, the presence of the fetus can be diagnosed by ultrasonography. Determining the exact number of fetuses is already possible, but the diagnosis is not always accurate, due to possible overlapping of individual fetuses in the uterus.
If birth has already occurred, in some cases it is advisable to perform an X-ray examination not only to determine the exact number of fetuses, but also their position and size - this is important to determine whether the birth can take place physiologically or it is necessary to choose an Caesarean section.
Length of pregnancy:
The female's pregnancy lasts on average 63 days with a physiological range from 59 to 72 days from the day of mating.
In the first half of pregnancy, the symptoms may not be noticeable, owners often notice only increased food intake, or calming of the female. Approximately from the second half of pregnancy, the abdomen begins to get bigger significantly.
There may be signs of mild agitation and enlargement of the mammary glands during the last week before delivery. The period just before giving birth is discussed in the article Delivery.
