Dog vaccinations and their overview

Dog vaccination is governed by one of the following vaccination schedules:

Vaccination schedule 1

  • 6th week of age Biocan DP - vaccination of puppies against distemper (D) and parvovirosis (P).
  • 8th-9th week Biocan DHPPi + L - revaccination of canine distemper and parvovirosis + vaccination against infectious hepatitis (H), parainfluenza (Pi) and leptospirosis (L) - often this combination vaccine is called a "triple combination" but it should be rather a "five combination".
  • In the next 2-4 weeks (10-12 weeks of age) revaccination of Biocan DHPPi + L.

From 12 weeks of age the possibility to start vaccination against Lyme disease (Biocan B).

  • In the next 2-4 weeks (about 16 weeks of age) vaccination against rabies (R) and revaccination against Lyme disease (B).

Further vaccination 12 months after the date of the last vaccination against infectious diseases (DHPPiL).

Vaccination schedule 2

  • 8th-9thBiocan DHPPi + L - revaccination of canine distemper and parvovirosis + vaccination against infectious hepatitis (H), parainfluenza (Pi), and leptospirosis (L).

Further vaccination not later than 12 months after the date of the last vaccination against infectious diseases (DHPPiL).

Annual revaccination is very important (necessary). Except for rabies which may be applied every 2 or 3 years for some approved vaccine types. However, it is necessary to visit the vet every year for other vaccinations.

You can encounter different vaccine names; instead of Biocan, your veterinarian can inoculate Nobivac, Eurican, Vanguard, Canvac, Duramune, Rabisin or others.

Other dog vaccinations:

Vaccination against canine cough with Pneumodog vaccine - first vaccination from 6 weeks of age, for puppies whose mother has not been vaccinated from 4 weeks of age. Subsequent revaccination is performed 2-3 weeks after the first vaccination followed by annual revaccination. Pneumodog is administered subcutaneously.

Canine pertussis vaccines from other manufacturers, such as Nobivac KC, can be used from age 3 weeks. The vaccine is injected directly into the nose with a syringe. Revaccination once a year is recommended. No revaccination is required 2-3 weeks after the first vaccination!

In addition, it is possible to vaccinate against coronavirosis (diarrhea of young puppies of viral origin) with Biocan C vaccination.

It is also possible to vaccinate against tetanus with Biocan T. Vaccination is possible from 3 months of age with revaccination in 2-3 weeks. Subsequent vaccination is carried out once every 2 years.

Vaccination against Microsporum canis with Biocan M is another vaccination option. Vaccination is carried out from 8 weeks of age with revaccination in 10-21 days, followed by annual revaccination. In the case of a so-called therapeutic vaccination, not a preventive vaccination, it is recommended to administer the vaccine for the third time 14-21 days after the second revaccination.

Another specific vaccination option is vaccination with Eurican Herpes against herpesvirus, which affects puppies in the first days of life. Against this disease is vaccinated bitch in the period of heat or 7-10 days after the expected mating. Subsequent revaccination is performed 1-2 weeks before the expected date of birth.
